Introducing ORIBA Cooler, a new addition to the ORIBA series of eco-bags for self-checkout, featuring enhanced insulation.
It provides powerful support for your summer grocery shopping, when food is more likely to spoil!

Hello. We are ORIGAMI LLC, creators of ORIBA, an eco-bag designed for self-checkout.
Our previous project, the third in the series, "New L-size for Self-Checkout," received over 17.5 million yen in support from 2,547 backers.
Thank you very much. This time, the ORIBA Cooler, the first insulated bag in the series, was born from the many voices of our customers.

In recent years, with global warming leading to prolonged heatwaves, it's foreseeable that groceries might spoil on the way home, even with cooler packs or ice from supermarkets.
Perishable foods like meat and fish, in particular, can go bad in as little as 30 minutes.

The ORIBA Cooler is a large-sized cooler bag for grocery shopping, featuring a thin aluminum sheet lining for insulation and a zipper closure for a tight seal.

Let us introduce in detail how user-friendly and convenient the ORIBA Cooler is!

When using self-checkout, it's a bit of a hassle to hook your bag's handles and widen the opening for bagging... It's a bit inconvenient, isn't it?

The ORIBA Cooler self-deploys by simply pulling on the tags of the folded bag from left to right.
All in just one second.
No need to bother with hooks.

"The meat was discolored..."
Have you ever had an experience like that while shopping in the summer?
In a car interior during summer, where temperatures exceed 30℃, fresh food starts to spoil in just 30 minutes.
Frozen foods melt and become sticky. Ice cream turns into juice.

Therefore, a cooling test was conducted by a third-party organization (Kaken).

We will observe the temperature change of a 2-liter PET bottle cooled to 5℃ (in a 35℃ environment), assuming it's used for carrying chilled fresh produce in summer.

Here are the results of the cooling test for the ORIBA Cooler.
Generally, bacteria on meat are said to multiply actively in the temperature range of 15 to 50℃.
The water in the control reached 15℃ in 40 minutes from the start.
In contrast, the water placed in the ORIBA Cooler took 110 minutes from the start to reach 15℃.
This means that with the ORIBA Cooler, you have enough leeway to visit a few supermarkets, as long as it's at least about 90 minutes after you finish your shopping.

What about frozen foods like ice cream? Frozen foods generally start to melt slowly once they exceed 0°C.

Therefore, we conducted an experiment. We compared how much an ice cream placed inside an ORIBA Cooler would melt in 30 minutes inside a car at approximately 30°C, against a bare ice cream not placed in anything.

The difference in cooling performance was more significant than I expected. However, ice cream in the summer might only last about 30 minutes during transport.

But sometimes you wish you had more cooling power, don't you? ORIBA Cooler is a cooler bag specifically designed for ease of use with self-checkout registers.
While it's perfect for keeping groceries cool on the way home, when you need extended cooling, we recommend this sheet-type "cooling furoshiki."

When observed under the same conditions as the ORIBA Cooler, water wrapped in a cooling sheet reached 15℃ after 160 minutes from the start.
This means that refrigerated foods can be expected to stay cool for more than 2 and a half hours.

The ORIBA Cooler is an insulated bag designed for self-checkout, maximizing its base to fit the "very edge of the self-checkout counter."

It may look small at first glance, but the bottom is large enough to fit an M-sized pizza.

The capacity of the ORIBA Cooler isn't what you'd call "extra-large," but we designed it to be 20 liters, aiming for a sweet spot between a typical tote bag and a shopping basket-style cooler.

Specifically, think of it as about two-thirds the capacity of a shopping basket.
While it may be too small for a large weekend grocery haul, I think it's just the right size for when you're visiting two or three supermarkets.

ORIBA Cooler Furoshiki are furoshiki that allow you to wrap "only what needs to be kept cool" with complete freedom.
By using multiple cooler furoshiki, you can handle even the largest shopping loads.

And above all, the ORIBA Cooler has excellent stability because its bottom is wide and perfectly square.

In a scorching hot car in the summer, keeping meat and sashimi straight and level prevents meat and fish juices (drip) from leaking, which also helps keep the bag clean.

The ORIBA Cooler features pockets on the left and right inside for ice packs or ice. Please use it on particularly hot days or when you're shopping for longer than usual.
Simply placing ice packs or ice inside not only prevents you from making effective use of the storage space, but also risks crushing other groceries due to their weight. Furthermore, if the ice packs are concentrated in one spot, their cooling effectiveness will be reduced.

By providing two pockets, one on each side, for ice packs, the ice packs are secured and the entire bag can be cooled evenly. Furthermore, the ice packs can be stored upright, making efficient use of space within the bag.
Please utilize this feature on extremely hot days or when you expect to shop for longer than usual.

Cooler bags are essential in summer, but aren't they just so bulky?
ORIBA Cooler focused on being "thin."
We conducted numerous cooling tests comparing it to thick aluminum sheets and adopted an aluminum sheet that provides excellent cooling despite being thin.

Also, we designed it to fold thinly rather than roll up and store like a colon, because we wanted it to be something you could always keep in your everyday bag.
ORIBA Cooler is very convenient when you want to visit multiple supermarkets, go shopping on the way home from work or the gym, or even when you didn't plan on going to the supermarket at all.

When something is advertised as "thin," you naturally worry about its durability, right?
The ORIBA Cooler uses highly durable kite fabric.
Kite fabric is used for sport kites that are buffeted by strong winds, and it's a material that combines lightness and strength.
The threads in kite fabric are 100% nylon, which has excellent mechanical strength and abrasion resistance.
It's a ripstop fabric, meaning thicker threads are woven diagonally in a grid pattern into a plain weave, giving it strong tear resistance. The double-stitched seams also prevent it from tearing easily.
In particular, the handle attachment points, which experience the most stress, are further reinforced with bar tacks, a type of stitch also used to strengthen denim.

Furthermore, a thin cushion is embedded in the center of the handle to prevent hands and shoulders from aching even when carrying heavy groceries.

It can be quite a hassle to refold a cooler bag after use, can't it? That's why we focused on ease of folding with the ORIBA Cooler.
Simply pull the tag to flatten it, then fold it along the creases like origami, and finally seal it with the snap. Once you get the hang of it, you can do it in 5 seconds.

Step 1: With your dominant hand, remove the square tag with three lines.
Step 2: With your other hand, hold the smaller square tag hidden inside.
Step 3: Pull the tags to both sides with both hands to make it stand upright.

Step 1: Pull the white tag inside to the left and right, then gently shake to shape.
Step 2: Fold both sides along the creases to create a trifold.
Step 3: Fold it in half along the vertical crease. Step 4: Finally, seal it and you're done.

The idea for our eco-bag, ORIBA, began five years ago with "origami."
Six housewives who shared the same vision gathered, and over approximately one year, we planned and developed...
What if the bag could fold flat like origami, and stand upright like origami?
Thus, this project began, aiming to create an eco-bag with an entirely new concept, unlike anything else in the world.

To give the eco-bag a never-before-seen ability to stand on its own, 98 types of fabric were tested before completion.
Through repeated trial and error, we created 127 prototypes to make the bag stand on its own, like origami, using only fabric and stitching.

Thus, we have applied for a patent (Patent Application No. PCT/JP 2022/128511) for the "self-standing mechanism" of the completely new eco-bag ORIBA that was born from this.
Among the four intellectual properties—patents, utility models, design registrations, and trademarks—patent rights, which strongly demand "inventive step," are considered difficult to obtain for apparel products with design elements, such as eco-bags. However, we are proceeding with the goal of acquiring the patent within this year.

And the "New L Size for Self-Checkout" that we released last year received far more support than we ever imagined.
When my mother casually remarked one day, "The supermarket near me suddenly switched to self-checkout," it made us realize that the self-standing ORIBA would be particularly useful at self-checkout counters.
Regarding the "cooling function," we received a truly enormous amount of feedback.
Since the release of the new L size last year, we have been repeatedly developing and prototyping, and a year has passed without us realizing it.
In fact, we had attempted a cooling function three years ago, but the technology and ideas never materialized, and we once gave up.
Considering that, ORIBA Cooler was the most challenging product to commercialize in our history, taking three difficult years, but we didn't compromise on a single aspect, and it has become a wonderful product.
We hope that our wish for "even a slight reduction in shopping stress for seniors" will reach people of the same generation and expand into demand for gifts.

The ORIBA series comes with a 3-month free repair warranty on all products from the date of delivery.
While eco-bags and insulated bags are consumables and their deterioration due to frequent use and age is unavoidable, we manufacture our products with the strong desire that "we want you to use them with peace of mind for a long time."

FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)
Q: Where can I purchase existing products (eco-bags without cooling function)?
A: You can purchase them from the link below. We will deliver them on the same day. https://oriba.shop
Q: Do you have a smaller size cooler bag?
A: Currently, we only have one size (32cm square) that can be used at supermarkets. If there is high demand from customers, we will gladly accept and proceed with development.
Q: Can it be attached to a shopping cart?
A: It cannot be attached to a shopping cart. While many general shopping cart bags are large when stored, ORIBA Cooler's key features are its thinness and compactness when stored.
Q: Can I wash it if it gets dirty?
A: It is hand washable. Repeated washing may weaken the fabric's coating. Both the inside and outside are water repellent, so for regular care, we recommend wiping it clean. * Do not use bleach. * After washing, hang it in the shade to dry.
Q: The folds are disappearing, what should I do?
A: We recommend folding it along the original creases and placing a heavy object on top to flatten it. * Please avoid ironing. The aluminum sheet may discolor.
Q: Can it be repaired?
A: Even if the deterioration is due to use, you can use our free repair service for 3 months from the date of purchase. Please contact us in advance with details of the condition. * Please bear the one-way shipping cost (from 198 yen).
Q: Is there a warranty other than repair service?
A: In the case of defective products (unused items only), we will exchange them for a new one. In such cases, the acceptance period will be within one month after our shipment. We apologize for the inconvenience, but please contact us in advance. * We cannot accept returns or exchanges for reasons other than defective products.
Q: What is the contact point for inquiries?
A: We accept inquiries at any time via our website's inquiry form and SNS (Instagram, Facebook, Twitter) DMs. Please feel free to contact us anytime if you have any questions or requests regarding usage.
